We did experiment with giving priority exposure to Pro members in the past, but we found the best Explore experience when giving every member an equal chance to be featured. There is currently no consideration of account or billing status. Nevertheless, we continue to look at new ways to give our Pro members more exposure.
Why do I see photos with fewer faves or comments or views than mine on Explore? We try to weigh in the quality of those actions over quantity. The timing of when you posted also plays a role. Is there a limit on how often a Flickr member can be featured in Explore?
There are limits to how often a single member can be featured on the Explore page. We try to avoid predictability and give more of our members a fair share of exposure by setting some frequency limitations. First up? Testing to update Explore. I found this out by accident, as a new image upload of mine made it into Explore and someone commented :.
I went to the third party tool that tracks which photos have been in Explore, and I found that over of my photos have been selected for explore. To find your own photos featured in Explore, substitute your screen name or Flickr ID number at that link. Some interesting observations… Some of my better, older work was recently featured.
I often re-process my older images, and Flickr enables me to replace the photo one of my favorite Flickr features. Given the complicated algorithm, changing anything such as adding your photo to a group or adding a tag can kick your photo in or out of Explore.
So if you replace a photo and maybe accept a group invitation you missed or put it in a group, it may get more activity, and Flickr may detect recognize the improvements. Or maybe a human does. Either way, continuing to invest in Flickr, even with older images, can deliver new benefits. Since I like and want to keep using Flickr, anything that improves it and encourages new use is a good thing. Does this signal a new era of relevance and quality for Explore? Time will tell.
The opposite is true for me. An algorithm governs In Explore. It either needs a significant overhaul, or it can be trashed. I rarely visit In Explore anymore. The Explore images I see in my feed rarely prompts me to further explore the page.
My suggestion is to either curate In Explore , or showcase the most popular images. Curation is perhaps not feasible because it is very labor-intensive. Showcasing the most popular images has quite a bit of challenge too. There must be a time limit for each image.
I believe the biggest issue will be the inrush of bots. Instagram is a bot nightmare. It looks like when fame is within reach honesty and integrity are surprisingly often thrown aboard. It is possible to curb this activity, though. A feature In Explore equals a huge boost in image views. As an added bonus, some of those viewers will follow you.
I would also like to mention that Flickr is working on a new iteration of Explore. Hopefully, it will offer a better Explore experience for everyone. Community is vital for the Flickr team when they envision the future for the platform.
I would also suggest an Editors Choice section where Flickr daily selects a few images. These nudges of recognition are very valuable for many photographers.
They usually share the accomplishment on social media. This means increased traffic to Flickr, and it adds prestige to the platform.
You need patience, though. Engagement will be slow in the beginning as with all platforms. You will find as time passes a warm, welcoming and encouraging community. Remember to say yes to all group invitations.
That will speed up things for you. I found the standardized group comments a bit annoying in the beginning. I am these days, however, impressed by the commitment these folks have to Flickr. What would you like to see in Flickr? Are you willing to give it a second chance?
Let us know in the comments. Since we need a photo here, I put the my most viewed image on Flickr to date on the top ;. Ole Henrik Skjelstad is a Norwegian math teacher and landscape photographer.
He fell in love with photography in when he got a camera as a birthday present. You can follow his work on px , IG , and Flickr , and get his tutorials here. Some points to consider indeed. The thing is, though, I personally feel that it is a hype that has just disappeared like any other hype. People remember one thing one time and then forget about it when something new shows up.
With the advance of smartphones, Instagram occupied the scene with an easy to use app despite the annoying square format. Moreover it became even a base of businesses and an open platform for all kinds of people, photographers or not, which made it even more popular.
Now THIS last line, to me, adds advantage to Flickr because I want to see real photos and real photographers and not a bunch of teenagers with a feed full of selfies. Because it should be something like an investment. The talk about the groups, well, is another story as well.
Flickr Tip 5: Take eye-catching photos. I think one reason for this is that your photo has to look creative or unique from a thumbnail size. Photos that are not colorful, or photos with fine detail that can only be noticed when enlarged will not get as many views because it won't prompt people to click on the thumbnail if it looks dull from that size. Let's be honest, just because your photo appears on the explore page doesn't mean that it's a great photo.
Personal Note: If you've checked my Flickr photostream lately, you know that I rarely update it. I'm mostly wrapped up in paying photography gigs lately, so I don't have much time to be social on Flickr.
Personally, I really don't care how popular my photos are. I really use it as a way to share photos from photowalks to my local group of photographers. It's just a fun thing and a lot of people want to know how to get on Explore. That's why I wrote this article. Thanks for tips, particularly agree with the one about being social, networks generate views. This is not a set of tricks, but an attempt to make observations on why explored photos have in common. Nice thips thank you about them. How many flickr groups is too much to get your photo explored?
Me and my girlfriend are receiving married for the conclusion with the calendar year, so this was just the knowledge we essential, thank you extremely much.
