Time to Dance song meanings. Add Your Thoughts Comments. General Comment Song clearly about Invisible Monsters. First verse, Brandy Alexander bleeding out at the beginning of the book. There are a couple of allusions in the first chapter, and most likely when it's revisited later as well although I'm too lazy to look for them, about how even in a tragic event like this, the 3 characters are still vying for their share of the spotlight, vying for attention.
Hence the reference to whether or not she's bleeding on the floor for the attention. Even when Evie is shooting someone, in her mind, she it is a superficial act for the attention, so to me it's either what she's saying to herself in the back of her mind, or it's coming from one of the other two characters present, scrutinizing her form while shooting Brandy for beauty and gracefulness.
I know I saw "Give me attention. I would be willing to bet "Give me envy" is in there somewhere too. Even though Evie used a rifle, the narrator describes Brandy as being "shotgunned, at the bottom of the staircase, bleeding to death.
Second verse could be about Shannon, as said. I would think it's about Brandy though, the same scene, her lying on the floor bleeding. Hence, she chose the person she became, but didn't in the sense that she didn't want to be that. And it's talking about her fake emotion, the overly sentimental way she's asking Shannon to tell her what happened to this point, after which it has the "Give me a break.
Definitely Brandy, since as someone pointed out, she used to be a man, and it references about a hundred times her "aubergine eyes" and even the particular shade of eyeliner she uses: Aubergine Dreams.
Could quite possibly also be a fairly directly lifted line from somewhere in the book. And yes, excellent book. Not his best though. Rant, people No Replies Log in to reply. There was an error. General Comment this song totally makes me think of the book "invisible monsters" with the reference to shooting, attention, estrogen and aubergine.
I'm sorry, but the beginning always reminds me of fireflies I'll go home now. Relistening to the whole album again. Still iconic even though I wasn't born yet when this came out..
I fell in love with this song and later realized it was based on my favorite book. Why does this song could be a anime opening for some horror, action, drama lol. The title of this song might have came from a book called "A time to dance, A time to die". I'm screaming. Don't worry about it. This song is about the novel by Chuck Palahniuk called Invisible Monsters.
This is evidenced by the lyrics "Walls line the bullet holes" the book opens with a shooting , as well as, "Give me envy, give me malice, give me your attention. Also, "Boys will be boys hiding in estrogen" refers to the transgender individual in the novel, and "Wearing aubergine dreams" refers to that character's favorite color of makeup.
Home P Panic! Well, she's not bleeding on the ballroom floor Just for the attention 'Cause that's just ridiculously odd. Well, she sure is gonna get it. Here's the setting:. She wanted to start over with an average life so she shot her jaw off. She later finds brandy in the hospital after she gets some kind of sex change surgery.
They end up staying with each other and traveling everywhere. His name was evan. He ad sex with evie so her thinks evie shot shannon so she wouldnt find out. He joins brandy and shannon on traveling to frin brandys sister. The house was aflame and shannon ws writing on the walls with brandys blodd to tell her she was her sister. Its her thoughts the way the photogropher would say it. She didn't choose being shot but she was. Its not real. This is shane. Shane is in the hospital and the ria sisters come and cover him with make up and shane is gone.
Its just brandy. It's definitely based on 'Invisible Monsters' - but I was wondering; In the 'original' lyrics that are printed in the album, at the end it says "When I say shotgun you say wedding. Or whatever comes to mind. It repeats the sentence '-insertword- isn't the right word, but its the first word that comes it mind' throughout the book. Panic's lyricist has made it pretty clear he's a fan of Palahnuik, so it could be phesable? Closer was published when the album was made. It's basically about 'invisible monsters', Brandy Alexander was dying on the ballroom of Evie's wedding, Evie shot Brandy so she's bleeding on the ballroom floor Everyone who says the song is about the book "Invisable Monsters" is absolutely right.
I have no doubt in my mind, because I know this may sound weird, but I do a lot of research Ryan Ross's girlfriend at the time the song was written, Jac Vanek, has Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk as one of her favourite books.
This leads me to believe that she along with Ryan have read the book, Which is why I'm sure that is what the song is based on, Along, of course, with all the reasons that have already been given.
